World Book Day

World Book Day 2026

World Book Day was a wonderful success, with learners proudly sharing their favourite stories, reading stories in unusual places and discovering new stories together. Our buddy reading sessions were so valuable,  the learners enjoyed listening to stories read by their older peers.

Throughout the week, children have been exploring well-loved nursery rhymes through singing, actions and playful repetition. These simple, rhythmic verses support early speech development, help with memory, and create a sense of joy and togetherness. From Humpty Dumpty to Twinkle, Twinkle, the children have delighted in performing their favourites and discovering new ones too!

We’ve also been sharing sensory stories, which bring books to life through touch, sound, movement and visual experiences. Using props, textures, scents and music, our staff have created immersive story sessions that help all children, including those with additional needs, engage deeply with narrative. Sensory storytelling encourages curiosity, strengthens communication and allows every child to connect with a story in their own unique way.

We finished our celebrations with 'The Bedtime Stories event' this created a calm and cosy atmosphere, allowing learners to experience the comfort and joy that sharing a story can bring. These experiences continue to strengthen our commitment to nurturing enthusiastic readers and a lifelong love of books.
