What is Connex?
Connex is a specialist environment where a personalised programme of support is offered. Connex follows the National Curriculum where appropriate, however content and coverage are adapted to meet our learner’s needs, enabling them to achieve good outcomes. Our personalised support means that learners can take the next steps in their educational journey. We focus on developing key life skills, communication, independence, and emotion regulation alongside the academic progress.
Learners benefit from a dedicated team of staff that are trained in meeting the individual needs of learners we use flexible teaching and learning approaches and tasks are highly differentiated and broken down into small steps so learning can be accessed by all. Our provision is specifically designed to support learners who have a Special Educational Need and Disability (SEND) profile which often includes neurodiversity, and/or Social Communication and Interaction Difficulties (SCID).
Where is Connex?
Connex is based at Unit 16 Headlands Grove Trading Estate, Headlands Grove, Swindon, SN2 7JQ.
How do we support communication at Connex?
We use a Total Communication approach to ensure that every child can express themselves and understand others in a way that works best for them. This means we combine a range of communication methods tailored to each child’s individual needs, including spoken language, sign language (such as Singalong), visual supports (like symbols, objects of reference, and visual timetables), gestures, and assistive technology. By using multiple forms of communication consistently across the setting, we create an inclusive environment that reduces barriers, supports understanding, and promotes independence, confidence, and positive interactions. Our staff are trained to recognise and respond to all forms of communication, ensuring that every child’s voice is heard and valued.
