Parent Information
Welcome to Connex!
This Parent/Carer Pack is designed to give you some information about Connex, and what we provide. It contains a lot of information and answers lots of questions that you might have. However, it will not answer all of your questions so please feel free to get in touch with any questions that you might have.
What is Connex?
Connex is a Registered Alternative Provision offering a supporting and nurturing environment for learners up to the age of 16. The curriculum is designed to cater for each individual need placed with us and provide a mixture of hands-on practical skills as well as a range of academic subjects. Connex follows the National Curriculum where appropriate, however content and coverage is adapted to meet our learner’s needs and difficulties, enabling them to achieve good educational attainment. It is our belief that all learners must receive a good education, regardless of their circumstances or the settings in which they find themselves. We provide morning, afternoon or full day sessions and a maximum of twenty-five hours per week.
The aim is to provide our learners with a team of consistent adults and a truly personalised curriculum offer. The work set and the strategies used to support them is specifically tailored to their needs, through highly differentiated, small-steps and flexible teaching and learning approaches.
Who is Connex for?
Connex has been designed to support a small group of Early Years, Primary and Secondary aged children and young people. Connex AP offers timely support of the highest quality to learners whose SEMH needs present as a barrier to accessing and engaging with education and need a specialist educational and therapeutic input. Our delivery model will ensure that learners are prepared for adulthood so they can live healthily, independently and successfully transition into employment.
Where is Connex?
Connex Secondary is based at Unit 17A Headlands Grove Trading Estate, Headlands Grove, Swindon, SN2 7JQ
What curriculum do you offer?
Our curriculum is broad and balanced where learners study a wide range of integrated subjects, particularly in core curriculum subjects, English, Maths and PSHE, integrated for the needs of the individual or group. Our curriculum has been broadened in order to continue to promote Life Skills and Employability as well as allowing greater levels of personalisation and differentiation to take place.
Before starting at Connex, many of our learners became disconnected from learning and don’t see the point in education. Connex want to turn this around and ensure that barriers are removed, and all learners are given the support, skills and experiences to succeed and reach their full potential.
